Understanding the different types of cholesterol

When dealing with cholesterolIt is essential to realise that not all cholesterol is harmful. O total cholesterol is the sum of all the types of cholesterol present in the blood, including LDL, HDL and other components. However, the most important thing is to assess your LDL and HDL levelsbecause it is these that directly influence cardiovascular health.

The LDL (low density lipoprotein) is known as the "bad cholesterol" because it can build up on the walls of the arteries, forming plaques that hinder blood flow and increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Ideally, LDL levels should be lower than 100 mg/dL, with values above 160 mg/dL being considered high.

On the other hand HDL (high density lipoprotein) is the so-called "good cholesterol" because it helps remove excess cholesterol from the blood, transporting it back to the liver where it is eliminated. High levels of HDL (above 60 mg/dL) are protective, while levels below 40 mg/dL in men and 50 mg/dL in women are considered risky.

This balance between HDL and LDL is one of the main indicators of cardiovascular health and should be monitored regularly by a doctor. With online cholesterol treatment, you can maintain this control more easily, renewing the necessary prescriptions and adjusting the treatment according to the results.

Long-term cholesterol control

A renewal of medication is just one part of cholesterol control. It is important to maintain regular medical monitoring and to undergo routine analyses, as advised by your healthcare professional. The continued use of medication should always be combined with:

  • A balanced diet

  • Regular physical activity

  • Avoid tobacco and alcohol

  • Frequent monitoring of total, LDL and HDL cholesterol levels

By maintaining these habits, treatment has better results and the risk of cardiovascular complications is reduced.

A digital medical consultation is here to stay. Through this model, Médico na Net offers a modern, ethical and secure solution, with all the credibility required of a health service.
